Thanksgiving, New Beginnings, Family and Smiles

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend with your loved ones! My Thanksgiving was good! We didn't cook, but went out to eat. At first I was a bit reluctant about going out to eat. But my mom works a full time job, so she deserved a break. I don't have the physical strength to help out all day. So going out to eat was an easier alternative. Thanksgiving has never been about the food for me. I think the food looks atrocious on a plate, (yet taste so good). For me, it is literally about my family and fulfilling traditions and making memories.

While we were at our restaurant, some people started to yell and panic. Turns out someone was choking on turkey. LOL - it's not funny at all. But just imagine sitting in a restaurant, eating the turkey dinner, minding your own business and almost everyone gets up from their table in panic, all to look at someone choking. The restaurant manager got on the intercom and told everyone to sit down.

Every year we attend the annual parade downtown, hosted by Chuys. That's In thways fun! Honestly, it is the same old floats and characters walking the road, but it's nice to see the kids happy. My mom took Cas and I to Walmart on Thanksgiving Night, we bought junk food and kid movies. My mom always does her best to make every holiday a special and memorable time for us. She never complains or complicates things. She is just awesome. She makes me want to be just like her when I'm a mom.

I just wanted to wish anyone who may read this a Merry Christmas! Don't forget what the holidays are truly about. Food and presents are great. But those things will be digested and eventually broken, or in the garbage. But making beautiful memories will be engraved into your soul forever. Do everything wisely.

There's 29 days until 2015. 29 days until a new year, a fresh start, and clean slate.

These past few months have been trying for myself and for my family. But thankfully, we have persevered through it all. Why? I don't know why. But I can tell you how, it is because we have each other and God. In spite of circumstances, we've remained loyal to the foundations of family and pursued happiness by relying on each other and Christ.

If there is one thing I've learned this year it is this: Family is EVERYTHING.

"When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching — they are your family." - Jim Butcher

I have found this quote to be proven true this year. Maybe sometime soon, I will write about our tales of heartbreak as a family. But for now, I want to emphasize one word: FAMILY

Never allow anyone to ever make you feel guilty for being close to your family. Those people who look down on close knit families, have never experienced that type of love. People fear the unknown and things they don't understand and frankly, I feel sorry for those who don't try to have a relationship with their family members.

In the midst of everything, it is important to laugh, laugh a lot. Live in the moment, give lots of hugs, dance it out, even if you can't dance and smile with your family.

Saturday at Sandy's Burgers, while we were eating, Motown music was playing on the speakers and we all started to bust a move. None of us can dance, and people were around but it was a good moment I'll won't forget.

Friends come and go, but family remains. No matter if there is a momentary disagreement, you will always find real  love and forgiveness with your family. I have SO much to be thankful for.

Fight for your family.... It is more important than anything. Not everyone is fortunate to come from a good family nor love their family unconditionally. But with God...anything is possible.

"In the end, family is all we have, my dear. You’ll do well to remember that." - Katie Jennings

"The strength of a family, like the strength of an army, is in its loyalty to each other." - Mario Puzo
